The company’s CEO, Avett Thompson, is arrested and Owen is facing indictment. In coincidence with the knock on the door, the second shock of the day for Hannah is discovering via media reports that the company where Owen works as head of coding had just been raided by the feds hot on the trail of a massive investigation into fraud and embezzlement. Owen is Hannah’s husband of just a little over a year. She is in the initial stages of middle age-around that period when the glass of wine starts to become the thing around which the entire day of a wife revolves-and is about to prematurely step into that phase of a marriage going sour: a knock on the door by an unexpected stranger bearing unthinkable news. Hannah Hall is the first-person narrator and protagonist of the novel. We are thankful for their contributions and encourage you to make your own. But as she comes to know Kyle, she begins to wonder if she’d be making a terrible mistake to leave him behind. Her dreams don’t include settling in a town even smaller than the one she escaped. She’s only planning to stay in Whiskey Creek long enough to write the songs for her next album-the album that’s going to put her back on top. Lourdes Bennett is a country music artist. Now, over five years after their divorce, Noelle still bothers him constantly, and he still pines for Olivia. Kyle Houseman has suffered for years due to an indiscretion which ended up in his losing his love, Olivia, forever, and his stepping up and marrying her sister, Noelle. He’s determined to be extra careful about the next woman he gets involved with-which is why he fights his attraction to the beautiful stranger who rents his farmhouse for the Christmas holiday. Not only did he lose her, he’s been through one divorce and has no desire to go through another. Brenda Novak (born in 1964 in Vernal, Utah) is an American author of historical romance, contemporary romance, and romantic suspense. Kyle Houseman believes he’ll never find anyone he could love as much as Olivia Arnold, who’s now married to his stepbrother. They get so frightened by a picture of Rebecca that they run away again, and then on a whim return to buy a house in - of all places- the Cotswolds, to be terrified all over again by Mrs Danvers and Jack Favell. This timid sequel begins when Maxim and his wife return to England for Maxim's sister's funeral. But though we sympathised with Maxim's desire for a companion in the empty mausoleum of Manderley, few readers have ever felt the need for a successor to Rebecca. One feels the same amused pity for Mrs de Winter's dreams of equality ('Daphne du Maurier would have approved,' says the dust-jacket) as we did for Mrs de Winter's silly idea, in that Monte Carlo hotel, of stepping into the first wife's shoes with ease. The second wife was seduced by that immortal line, 'I'm asking you to marry me, you little fool,' and Susan Hill by the immortal offer of pounds 650,000. It would be difficult for Mrs de Winter to be anything but a poor, gauche substitute for her incomparable predecessor. Of course sequels, like second wives, have to run the gauntlet of odious comparisons. I left as soon as I could, but it will never seem the same again. I peered through the gates, heart beating with anticipation, but instead of grand lovers playing out their romantic struggles, I saw two middle-aged chaps in a Gloucestershire garden having a squabble. This type of material has no place on the festival.’Ĭomics largely rallied to Sadowitz’s defence saying he should not have been cancelled. While we acknowledge that Jerry Sadowitz has often been controversial, the material presented at his first show is not acceptable and does not align with our values. Jerry Sadowitz is returning to the Edinburgh Fringe – a year after his shows were cancelled amid much publicity. It will appeal to book clubs that enjoy light engaging reads wiith emotional pull.ġ. The book is well written and nicely paced. It's the heartwarming journey of two completely different people that will take you through the paces of finding oneself and starting over. This book is about change, facing challenges and living with the choices we make. This book will appeal to those who enjoy a good story with emotional undercurrents. In short, a great book to pop in the beach bag. It's also inspiring to witness Emily overcome her obstacles and move on with her life- a better, more satisfied woman. I also found his transformation from self-centered and offensive to a person who accepts responsibility touching and satisfying. I particularly enjoyed watching Emily's husband, whose roots stem from privilege come to terms with being a dog. Fantasy because Emily's husband, killed in an accident returns as a dog, reality because the book does deal with the ups and downs of marriage, cheating husbands, a difficult mother-in-law and putting your life back together after losing a spouse. She pulls you in and takes you on a journey that effortlessly moves between fantasy and reality. Linda Francis Lee's writing style is witty and engaging. It's an uplifting story of love and redemption and undoing wrongs. PBR Book Review: (by- Linda ) A perfect light read different, a little quirky and emotionally satisfying.
